Winter Sun

Holidays From Dublin   The kids are gone back to school, the evenings are getting darker and you find yourself wrapping up more and more in the evenings. Yes, welcome to Winter! If you're not quite ready to dig in or fancy a break from the wind and rain, check out our guide to Winter Sun and you could be breaking out the swimmers again before you know it...   Where to go? Well. this depends largely on your budget! Of course we would all love to go to Barbados and St Bart's, but for most of us the budget isn't going to stretch that far. The Canary Islands are a little closer to home and although technically part of Spain these islands lie 100km to the west of North Africa and offer and endless Spring / Summer season. There's beautiful beaches and volcanic landscapes if you stray out of the tourist traps Morocco is an increasingly popular destination and served well by tour operators. More of a cultural holiday then the Canary Islands and a much wider area to explore full of exotic culture. With temperatures similar to the Canary Islands you're almost guaranteed 20 degrees plus all year round. Egypt boasts some of the worlds best diving with constant water temperatures all year round. This coupled with sights such as the Pyramids make it a very attractive winter sun destination Tunisia is a liberal Islamic country with the bustling markets, architecture and cultural sites you might expect. Although cooler and fresher then other African resorts the miles and miles of sandy beaches are visitable all year round.   Direct Holidays Ireland offer an amazing range of winter sun deals, click the banner below for more info

Cruise Holidays

<p style="text-align: center;">Holidays From Dublin</p>
&nbsp;

So lets be honest, when most people think of a cruise holiday they think of "golden oldies" walking along the deck hand in hand, people playing shuffleboard and not enough lifeboats to go around. The air travel revolution of the 1950's may have brought rapid intercontinental travel to the masses and given a more convenient holiday option for some but in 2011 cruise holidays are making a serious revival.

The cruise holiday has can trace its origins back to the 1830s when Arthur Anderson had the idea of cruising around Scotland and Iceland in the Summer and the Mediterranean in the Winter. The idea never really had mass appeal until the 1900 and even still it was an activity for the super rich only. By the 1920s,and despite the loss of the Titanic the cruise ship industry was growing @ a phenomenal rate.

It wasn't until the 1980s that the Cruise Holiday was developed into a vacation package or "package holiday".  Cruise Lines jumped on board mass media and started hitting the airways with packages designed to appeal to common people for the first time.

These days cruise holidays are now a popular choice for the modern family holiday. Cheap air travel means that a cruise is available to pretty much anybody with access to an airport. The ships themselves come in all shapes and sizes, many with facilities and space that would put a modern city to shame. The Mediterranean and Caribbean are popular destinations for sun seekers with Alaska and Scandinavia being the choice for those with no fear of ice or water hazards.
