Introduction
For most people it's hard to think of Orlando without a giant mouse popping into your head. Mickey Mouse is the cartoon conception Walt Disney, whose vision has transformed Orlando, and the adjacent Lake Buena Vista and Kissimmee areas, into the world's busiest, biggest and best-known tourist Mecca. Currently the Disney territory in Orlando includes four theme parks, dozens of minor attractions, thousands of hotel rooms and holiday apartments, and hundreds of restaurants and snack bars. Smartly dressed vermin aside, it's not only the Disney magic that draws visitors to Orlando. There are other attractions here too, like Universal Studios, numerous water parks and Sea World, all adding to the maelstrom of thrills and pleasure palaces that this city is now renowned for.
Getting there
Orlando International Airport is located about 11kms southeast of Orlando. Many package holidays will include car rental due to the sheer size and distance between attractions. Public transport from the Airport to downtown Orlando is by way of Bus with multiple services departing at regular intervals throughout the day. Taxis are also available with metered rates.
What to do
Walt Disney World - Undoubtedly Orlando's most familiar landmark is the turreted Cinderella Castle that stands in the core of the original Disney Florida theme park, the Magic Kingdom, at Lake Buena Vista. Universal Studios – Some Experienced theme parkers do recommend that it takes at least two days to fully realize all the delights on offer at the Universal Orlando, which includes two theme parks: the Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. The movie-themed park with its breathtaking, innovative fun-rides, production studios and film sets also has three superb luxury on-site hotels so spending a night is an excellent idea. Wet ‘n’ Wild - One of Orlando's many water parks, Wet 'n Wild has the merit of being the most popular water attraction in the area and also the world's first amusement park devoted solely to water flumes, pools, slides and sun loungers. Its age is starting to show however and it's not as modern as the newer Disney themed waterparks Sea World – Located between the Disney parks at Lake Buena Vista and the downtown Orlando area is home of Shamu and the world famous Sea World attraction, which has been making a major splash in central Florida for more than 25 years. Kennedy Space Centre - The John F. Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral, is 74km to the southeast of Orlando on Florida's east coast, is one place in this state where fact is just as entertaining as fancy. Visitors to the centre follow the story of NASA's exploration of space through interactive exhibits, movies and tours.
Hotels
There are apparently over 400 hotels in the resort area of Orlando so you’re bound to find your perfect accommodation. Luxury golf resorts, themed hotels and right down to quaint bed and breakfasts Orlando's accommodation options are as diverse as the people it attracts. Whatever your price point, Luxury 5 stars or a more moderately priced chain hotel Orlando has it all.
Nightlife
Despite its reputation as the Family holiday destination of choice Orlando has the ability to transform itself to a more mature adult orientated destination by night. From high intensity dance clubs to laid back pubs and bars Orlando has several options for living it up after the sun goes down. Club Paris Orlando – Located on Church Street, it takes its name from Paris Hilton having a role in the design. DJs here will spin top 40 tunes and play a mix of music that will keep most people entertained. Wall St Plaza – If you find yourself on Orange Avenue then call into to Wall St Plaza which features a number of bars including the intimate Loaded Hog complete with two person booths. Pointe Orlando – International Drive is home to Pointe Orlando which boasts an array of night time action like Glow Lounge Orlando, Howl at the Moon and the Ultra Club POSH Universal CityWalk – This place oozes dinner and dancing options with the world’s largest Hard Rock cafe the flagship venue
